Programs and Services

Crisis Program

  • 24/7 comprehensive crisis response service
  • In house/mobile crisis assessments and risk assessments
  • Short term counseling (6-8 sessions)
  • Stress management and relaxation group
  • Excellent working relationship with hospital and police (OPP)
  • May 2008 crisis services to be provided at Interval House
  • ASIST training offered to the community annually
  • Two day advanced mental health training (LEAD) for police and first responders offered annually

Criminal Justice Program

  • Court diversion and support services offered to individuals who have committed a class 1 or minor class 2 offence and who have mental health issues
  • Comprehensive assessments, treatment planning and follow-up provided to individuals crown approves for diversion
  • Mental Health consultation provided to others referred via courts who do not meet diversion mandate
  • Participation in Ontario wide diversion initiatives
  • Release from Custody program operates at Quinte Detention Centre
  • Discharge planning services offered to mentally disordered offenders. Short term intensive case management offered once released. Referral back to community of origin for those not staying in county
  • Anger management groups provided on an ongoing basis
  • Longer term case management services provided to individuals who have committed an offence or who are at risk of doing so

Community Support Services

  • Intensive case management services provided in the community to individuals with serious mental health issues
  • Comprehensive treatment planning and goal setting
  • Areas addressed include but are not limited to medication compliance, activities of daily living, budgeting, self care, advocacy, referral

  • Occupational Therapy services provided in community to agency clients
  • Standardized functional and cognitive assessments provided to agency clients

Residential Services

  • 12 independent living bachelor apartments co-located with main office site
  • 5 residents supported by providence care via CHITT (Community High Intensity Treatment Team)
  • All residents encouraged to participate in individual and group services provided
  • Groups include; leisure and rec group, breakfast/community kitchen group, current events group
  • All clients participate in comprehensive assessment process to determine skill level and suitability for apartment setting

Addiction Services

Assessment and Treatment Planning

  • Assessments are approved by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan following Ministry of Health guidelines
  • A client is assessed in all life areas including alcohol and drug use; gambling practices; family and marital relationships; state of physical and emotional health; vocational and legal histories
  • Based on the assessment information, client strengths and problems are identified; and an individualized treatment plan is developed by the counselor and client.

Community-Based Treatment

  • Outpatient counseling/treatment may include individual, family, telephone and/or group therapy for people affected by alcohol and/or drug abuse or gambling.
  • Topics may include: techniques for abstention or controlled substance use; relapse prevention; harm reduction; communication skills; stress and anger management; lifestyle and relationship issues.

Case Management & Referrals

  • Case management involves planning, linking, monitoring and advocating
  • Counselors will ensure clients receive the help that he/she needs
  • Referrals are made when a client can benefit from other specialized services or community programs
  • All referrals are made at the request of clients

Youth Program

  • Support and services provided to the children and youth of the county who are experiencing difficulty with alcohol or drugs due to their own or someone else’s use
  • Counselors also offer education/awareness services in classroom settings. Services are offered directly in secondary and alternative county schools in elementary and secondary panels, although predominantly secondary (NDSS/NAEC/ESS).

Family Support Services

  • Support for family and friends of individuals (identified as concerned persons) dealing with substance abuse or problem gambling problems are offered.

Problem Gambling Education & Counseling

  • Staff will provide public awareness presentations related to problem gambling.
  • Agency staff also provide outpatient assessment, counseling and case management services to individuals experiencing problems related to gambling

Needle Exchange Program

  • Clean needles, other supplies and sharps collectors are available to intravenous drug users or other drug users (i.e. crack kits) in the community
  • Assistance will be provided with the safe disposal of used syringes
  • Continuous support is provided to these individuals in this program

Methadone Maintenance Treatment

  • Counseling provided for clients involved in Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT)
  • Outreach provided directly in local MMT clinic.
